MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. Junior distance runner Mark Hegarty (Springfield, Mass.) turned in a strong performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as UMass Lowell opened the outdoor season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational Track and Field Meet hosted by Coastal Carolina University, Saturday, at Doug Shaw Stadium.
